Gunfleet Sailing Club held its Annual General Meeting on Sunday 4 December where Commodore Richard Walker looked back, not just on the last year but also the last sixty years since the Club’s formation in 1962.  Little did he think then, as he watched the birth of the Club, which he would, subsequently, have the honour of being its Commodore for twenty-eight of those years.  

Gunfleet Sailing Club held the final race in its Winter Series on Sunday 27 November, and so concluded a very full programme of sailing events for 2022.

Gunfleet Sailing Club held the fourth race in its Winter Series with Chris Maloney taking a convincing win in his Solo.

Gunfleet Sailing Club held the second race in its Winter Series on Sunday 30 October 2022 with a second win for Ken Potts in his Laser.

Gunfleet Sailing Club kicked-off its Winter Series on Sunday 23 October in very mixed condition, ending in a vicious squall and victory for Ken Potts.

Gunfleet Sailing Club held its race for the Personal PY Trophy on Sunday 16 October 2022, calculated on the individual sailor’s performance throughout the season, which resulted in a well earned victory for Simon and Nicky Kedge in their Topaz.

Gunfleet Sailing Club celebrated the end of the 2022 sailing season on Saturday 15 October with its Laying-Up Supper and presentation of trophies in the Clubhouse.  After a delicious meal, Commodore Richard Walker welcomed everyone present and looked back at sixty years of sailing at the Club, since its foundation in 1962, and was delighted to report that 2022 had been one of the best sailing seasons for very many years; numbers on the water being considerably up.

Gunfleet Sailing Club held its long distance race for the Jim Suckling Shield last Sunday 2 October 2022 in almost summery conditions, with Ken Potts sailing home to victory in his Laser.

Gunfleet Sailing Club concluded its Autumn Series, which had seen 22 dinghies taking part, with a win for Robert Mitchell in his Laser, and giving him the series overall by just one point.

Gunfleet Sailing Club’s third race in its Autumn Series was held under tricky conditions, with a strong offshore wind requiring the competitors to be on their toes at all times.

Gunfleet Sailing Club held the second race in its Autumn Series in summer-like conditions, with victory going to Jono Dunnett in his Laser.

Gunfleet Sailing Club welcomed September with the first race in its Autumn Series on Sunday 4th, attracting twenty dinghies on the water.  The southerly force four wind appeared to be veering south west as the sailors rigged their boats on the beach but as they launched so the strength started to drop and it began to back southerly.  On a crowded line it was Andy Dunnett’s Laser that was right on the edge at the start, but as the fleet headed down the coast to the St.

It was a busy time for Gunfleet Sailing Club over the August Bank Holiday weekend with the race for the Jim Suckling Long Distance Shield on the Sunday, followed by the final race of the Class Points Series on Monday.

Gunfleet Sailing Club held a slightly unusual event when the Personal PY Pursuit Race took place on Sunday 21 August 2022.  Seventeen dinghies took to the water and every helm had a unique start time based on their performance in the racing they had taken part in, to date, this season; the normal results being calculated using the national dinghy class yardsticks produced by the Royal Yachting Association.
