Last Sunday afternoon 4 May 2008 the Gunfleet Sailing Club held the third race in their Spring Series with fourteen boats taking part. A light east/north easterly wind and strong ebbing tide greeted the competitors as they hovered around the line waiting for the start.

Gunfleet Sailing Club held the second race in their Spring Series last Sunday morning when thirteen boats took part. A couple of hours prior to the race a fresh onshore breeze promised the competitors some pleasant sailing but as the start time got close so the wind fell away. The Officer of the Day John Clarke set a course that would involve many points of sailing just in case there was a change in direction once the wind returned, and as it transpired this proved to be a very wise move.

A thick sea mist and chilly north easterly wind did not deter twelve boats from taking part in the first race at Gunfleet Sailing Club in their Egg and Bacon Series. Just prior to the early morning start the mist suddenly thickened and Officer of the Day Peter Downer wisely hoisted the fifteen minute postponement flag.

Eleven boats took to the water at the Gunfleet Sailing Club last Sunday morning when the first race of the Spring Series was held. Gunfleet Sailing Club celebrated the start of the 2008 season on Saturday 29 March 2008 with the traditional fish and chip Fitting-Out Supper in the clubhouse. Commodore Richard Walker welcomed the 55 members to the event and presented Ken Potts with the Cetoco Trophy for the winning helm in the Club’s first Winter Series. Gunfleet’s KANDU attitude was again demonstrated at the weekend when Club members came down to participate in the Extreme Gardening Event. Despite very cold and windy weather we succeeded in cutting back all the tamarisk bushes which had grown so tall they were obscuring the view into the Compound. Tendring District Council had provided us with a couple of trailers.
