Club's Cadets & Otters Raise Over £200 For Cancer Charity
Gunfleet Sailing Club’s younger members organised a “Tea by the Sea” event over the Bank Holiday weekend at their headquarters at Holland on Sea and raised over £200 for the Sail 4 Cancer charity. The charity aims to raise significant funds for cancer treatment and research through the organisation of high profile sailing events and also provides sailing opportunities for cancer patients and their families, in the hope that their quality of life may be improved. The Gunfleet’s Cadets and Otters were all keen to raise much needed money as so many of them had friends or family that had been touched by the terrible illness. The youngsters, led by Cadet Social Secretary Anna Challis, prepared a wide variety of food, including cream teas, and held a raffle in order to raise the money. Club members and their friends were waited upon by the youngsters who ensured nobody went away hungry. Cadet Officer Andy Ford said “This was something the Club’s Cadets and Otters really wanted to do as they were all very aware of how cancer affects so many people’s lives, young and old. They all worked hard and were thrilled to have raised so much money”.
