Congratulations Robert and Harry
Gunfleet Cadets did us proud at Clacton Sailing Club's Regatta on Sunday 6 July. The young members took a Laser, Hobie 405, two Topazes and two Toppers up to Holland Haven to join in the fun....and came back with the Trophies.
In the morning race, for the RNLI Pennant, Robert, Beth E., Daisy, Abigail, Brogan, Finn, Harry and Max set off in no wind, and light rain - ugh! But slowly the rain stopped and a breeze picked-up and off they all went. Competing against a number of CSC Cadets as well as adults, they sailed really well and, at the end of the race it was Robert that took top spot in the Cadet section, and the RNLI Pennant. Second was Max in his Topper - a great performance by Max who has only just got his Topper. And in third place, and just warming-up for things to come, there was Harry, also in a Topper - Fantasmajorical y'all.
Then in the afternoon there was an all-in race for the CUDC Cup - with a separate Trophy for the first Cadet on handicap. Well, as the wind strengthened things got lively and there were some capsizes but, at the end of the race it was Harry that was Leading Cadet and so got the Cadet Trophy. Then...the all-in handicaps were worked out, which included a variety of catamarans including a Spitfire and a Hurricane, plus some pretty mean machines on the dinghy front. And the overall winner was Harry in his Topper - Top Banana mate.
By the way, why are you lads both wearing red hoodies? Is this what helped? Oh, I see, it was the tips on using your controls that you got from Ken the previous day, at the Club's SOS Sail/Race Training, that really helped - WOW!
