Fun On The Water At First Coaching Session

The weather was set fair for the first Cadet & Otter Coaching Session at Gunfleet today (5 June 2021).  Plenty of really good surprises, starting with Via having her first go on a Laser Radial, and loving every minute of it.  Francesca took her Topaz "Tick Tack" out; the very boat which had, in the past, seen Laser Olympic Gold Medalist Paul Goodison and 470 Olympic Gold Medalist Saskia Clark both sail at Mersea, and Sidney took out her super Taz.  The Club's training buoys were used to make a small triangle and the girls soon had their boats cutting tight round the marks, with Andy and Val keeping a close eye on them in the Club's Safety Boat.  Back on shore Richard, the Commodore, was teaching some dry sailing to Belle and Annabelle, who both picked it up very quickly.  They then launched Belle's Topper "Ding Dong" and each took it in turn to convert dry sailing into wet sailing, using the 4.2 sail.  Out at sea Sidney lead the girls on some planned capsizes in order to improve their righting skills before continuing with their running, reaching and beating. 

At the end of the session everyone had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves - exactly what sailing is all about.
