Cliff Clearance Completed In Record Time
On a cold, wet and blustery Saturday morning, 13 February, forty members of the Gunfleet Sailing Club turned up to carry out the annual cliff clearance around the site. Armed with loppers, electric and petrol hedge trimmers, and various saws, they all got stuck-in to the job, working hard to keep out the effects of the bitter easterly winds; the wind-chill factor hovering at freezing point! Tendring District Council supplied a shredding machine and operator, and with a great team effort the tamarisk was swiftly cut down and transported to the shredder. Just over three hours after the work started, with the rain still coming down, everyone retreated to the Clubhouse for hot refreshment, having concluded the work.
The cliffs are officially the responsibility of the Council to maintain but the Club is always pleased to "do its bit" in the community and help look after the fabulous seafront. The cliff clearance is now an annual tradition for the members. and goes back over ten years.
