The Weather Has The Final Say
Mixed May Bank Holiday weather disrupted Gunfleet Sailing Club’s race programme, with force six winds and a large swell on the sea forcing the Officer of the Day to abandon the race on Sunday for the London Trophy; the event being rescheduled for later in the year. Conditions on the Monday proved to be ideal and, as well as some social sailing, the Club members took part in the Rescue Boat, Radio and Winch Training. Sailing Secretary Paul Davis gave a presentation on helming the Club’s Rescue Boats, assisting dinghies in trouble, and how to approach a casualty in the water, allowing for tide and wind conditions. Vice Commodore Dave Fowell then took the trainees out on the water in one of the Club’s RIB’s to turn theory into practice, whilst tuition on radio procedure and use of the Club’s winch took place on dry land.
