Members Prepare For The 2016 Sailing Season

Gunfleet Sailing Club’s Work Weekend, last Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March, saw 40 members popping down to get the place all “ship-shape and Gunfleet fashion” ready for the 2016 sailing season; the weather proving perfect.  Mixed amongst the annual maintenance jobs – creosoting, painting, cleaning, oiling, greasing, polishing, servicing, and disposing of, etc., there were some larger projects.  A team set about replacing a number of structural Clubhouse beams, a new frame and door were built and installed on the buoy locker, and a new racing mark system was put together.  To keep up both the strength and moral of the workers the galley crew ensured there was a steady stream of hot drinks and tasty lunches, and the camaraderie shone through, throughout the whole weekend.

By the end of the first day the Club was a mass of part completed jobs, and it was an early start on Sunday in order to crack-on with the work.  As time marched on so the projects were ticked-off as completed, and by late afternoon the paint brushes were cleaned, the tools packed away, and everything put back in its right place.

It was great to see such a mix of members, from the younger Cadets to those that have long been retired, all working together to make the Gunfleet the best little sailing club on the east coast.
