Carnival Capers But Races Blown Off

It’s been very many years since Gunfleet Sailing Club put a float into the Clacton Carnival but thanks to Kevin Jay and his band of merry helpers Gunfleet not only took part, but also gained second place in the decorated floats section.  The Carnival’s overall theme was fairy tales and Kevin entered GSC with the Little Mermaid, so maintaining a nautical link.  Using a Club Topaz, with loads of blue balloons representing a choppy sea, plus all sorts of cut-out creatures the entry proudly flew the Gunfleet pennant.  Accompanying the float were several Otters and Cadets dressed up in nautical attire and many were in their own cardboard boats.  And the evening proved dry and warm, with the Gunfleet float looking grand amongst the procession.  The evening finished off with burgers and hot dogs, plus drinks, in the Clubhouse.

Well done Kevin and Team and by the way....nice suit Kev!!

The racing over the weekend was less successful with force 6 winds putting a stop to SOS Class Racing, which will be rescheduled for Saturday 15 September.  Then on Sunday, with winds gusting to 46 mph – force 9, the race for the Potterer’s Pot was not surprisingly postpones; most of the Potterers choosing to be curled up with a good sailing book in the comfort of the Clubhouse.
